Why Rosh and Meshech are not Russia and Moscow

One of the most overlooked principles of biblical context is the time frame. Over and over again, I hear prophesy teachers use the term Rosh to mean Russia in biblical prophecy. That is simply not the case. For example, just by doing a simple Strongs Concordance word study, reference #7220, the word Rosh is the family line of Benjamin and is also a reference to being a chief. Yet, nowhere in the text is Russia mentioned. Honestly, it’s simple. Russia was not a part of the known world going back to the context of the timeframe. It’s the same reason countries like America, Scotland, Sweden, and Australia are also not mentioned in the Bible. One of the things I had to learn and still have to practice today is that we must let scripture dictate what it is saying. We cannot put our ideas on the scriptures to make them our own. The kingdom of the north where Tubal, Magog, and Meshech are from is modern-day Turkey. I will leave a link to a study that Dalton Thomas did with the F.A.I. ministry. I hope it brings clarity to the heart of the prophecy here in Ezekiel 38. God bless!   Keith Hack

Ezekiel 38:1-6 1Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2“Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. 4I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. 5Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you.
